Under the Sea Learning with LA Promise Fund's ArtsMatter & Paramount Animation!

March 5 2021

Last Spring Paramount Pictures partnered with the LA Promise Fund’s ArtsMatter program to develop a robust media arts curriculum for 200 elementary and middle school students from L.A. County; providing a first-hand exposure to the entertainment industry, the field of animation and SpongeBob SquarePants. This virtual learning program was developed to teach the animation process, while also incorporating timely social emotional learning and writing skills.

Members of the Paramount Animation team created video tutorials explicitly for these students and this program that addressed a diverse set of topics including character design, voice casting, and cinematography. The culmination of this learning program saw students conducting virtual “pitch meetings” in which they presented their original concepts for new animated characters and stories to executives and creatives from Paramount Animation.

"On Sunday, February 28, 2021 my 5th grade students had the wonderful opportunity to attend "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" drive-through and drive -in screening! Paramount Studios gave my students to wonderful opportunity to see in the drive-through the amazing characters, setting and creative design seen in the movie. By giving my students the opportunity to learn how artist design characters in a movie to evoke emotions in a viewer, it has inspired my students to see themselves as future storytellers, animators, set designers and content creators!"
              - Maria Vargaz, 5th Grade Teacher at Rosemont Elementary School

All the students who participated were finally rewarded with a screening of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run last Sunday night at the Rose bowl.

Me and my family watched it together and we loved the movie. We are so grateful to having this opportunity to be one of the first ones to watch the movie.
